Where your Google ads are: the four steps
Ads → Google puts every campaign in one of four steps: Prepare, Launch, Monitor and Action. Each kind is judged its own way: Search, Shopping and Performance Max on orders, Demand Gen and Video on what they cost per view or click, and your brand's own searches on how often they show.
How to do it
- 1
Open Ads Insight and choose Google.
- 2
Each platform has four tabs: Overview for the answer and the charts, To do for what is worth a decision, Rules for your rule sets, and Setup for every setting.
- 3
Pick a kind chip, such as Search or Performance Max, if you want only one kind.
- 4
Tap a step or one of its chips. The list opens under the strip with why each campaign is there.
- 5
In Action, each row has one button. It makes a suggestion for Approvals; nothing changes in Google until you approve it.
- 6
Hands off while Google learns: a new or changed Smart Bidding campaign gets 7 to 14 days before any verdict, and budgets move by 20% at most.
- 7
The graphs show where the money sits, the funnel from impressions to your own orders, every change with what followed, and the share of searches you were shown for.
A verdict needs enough days and spend: 2 weeks and twice your target cost per order for Search and Shopping, 6 weeks for Performance Max. Until then the row says how far along it is.
